Instrument Rating
The JAR IR(A) course consists of a minimum of 55 hours of training. However if the applicant already has a JAR Multi Engined Commercial Pilot's Licence the amount of training is reduced to 50 hours.
The training is spread over 6 to 7 weeks. These figures relate to an I.R. on a multi-engine aircraft; for a rating restricted to single-engine aeroplanes deduct 5 hours from each total.
Theoretical instruction (PPL/IR or ATPL) must be completed before entering the course. At least 20 hours of the training must be flown on the aircraft - in our case a DA42 Twinstar.
The remainder will be undertaken in our state of the art FNPT2 simulator, including dynamic control feedback. This should lead to a seamless transition from "synthetic" to flight training and means rapid progress to instrument proficiency free of weather and airspace constraints, before transiting to the aircraft.
Thus all the instrument training is multi-engine and tailored to the aeroplane you will use for your test. If necessary, a multi-engine class rating or ME-CPL can be undertaken prior to the I.R. course - again on the same aircraft.
You will fly the routes likely to be chosen for your test and in the aeroplane you will use for training, maximising your learning experience and minimising the time and cost.
Finally, there is plenty of accommodation of all types available in the vicinity and we will be pleased to assist with this.
We hope you will find both the course and the costs attractive and look forward to flying with you.
The pre-entry requirments for the IR:
-
An applicant for a CPL(A) shall be medically fit in accordance with JAR-FCL 3 and hold a current JAR medical certificate.
-
Training for the multi-engine piston land MEP(L) class rating should be completed before commencing IR(A) (flying) training.
-
An applicant for an IR(A) must hold a JAA/UK National licence, a UK FRTOL, have 50 hours cross-country experience and be within the validity period of either the IR or ATPL theoretical examinations. CPL exams are NOT valid.
