Flight Instructor Restricted Course
The FI(A)R course consists of 125 hours of ground school and 30 hours of flying training on the PA28. There is a compulsory pre-course assessment flight which takes about one hour and usually costs around £160.
The course which takes about five weeks will equip you to teach all the flight exercises for the JAR PPL and the NPPL on SEP(Land) aircraft. At the end of the course there is a skill test which is undertaken with a Flight Instructor Examiner (FIE). You should budget for the test fee plus aircraft hire, around £350 for both. At the end of this course you will be ready for that first professional pilots job.
Flight Instructor, Night
This course is just one hour of flying and two hours of ground school with no test at the end. It is normally accommodated within the basic FI(A)R course during the winter, but for those who need to lift this restriction the course takes an afternoon and part of the same evening.
Flight Instructor, Applied Instrument & IRI
This course utilises our IFR equipped PA28 aircraft and consists of a minimum of 5 hours flying and 35 hours ground school. It can be usually be covered in one working week and there is a skill test on completion. It will allow instructors who have or are about to lift their basic restriction to teach the UK IMC rating. Also more advanced instructors can use the same course to prepare them to teach the Instrument Rating.
Also available is the stand alone instrument rating instructor course of 10 hours flying and 35 hours ground school, for those who wish to teach the instrument rating. This course usually takes 7 to 8 working says to complete and is followed by a skill test.
Flight Instructor, Multi-Engine - Class Rating Instructor
